It’s totally standard(s), don’t worry

InTASC Standards

1. Learner Development
The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that
patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the
cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and
implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning
experiences.

My artifacts and coursework demonstrate my understanding that students learn differently and uniquely. I teach believing that diversity in development should be honored as it makes the classroom better and more dynamic.

2. Learning Differences
The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse
cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that
enable each learner to meet high standards.

My artifacts and coursework show an extensive study and focus on learning differences. With advising from Dr. Alice Hammel, I have learned to consider multiple domains of adaptations and modifications. Much of my coursework was developed for Survey of Exceptionalities in the spring of 2025.

3. Learning Environment
The teacher works with others to create environments that support
individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social
interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.

My kindergarten, Jr. High, and 3rd grade lessons all involve movement and social, collaborative environments. I try to create a classroom where students feel free to speak up and share their thoughts and ideas. I believe that expression is an essential building block of learning.

Artifacts: A,B,C

4. Content Knowledge
The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and
structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning
experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and
meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

My lesson plans and warm-up sequences show an understanding of musical building blocks, essential skills, and sound vocal technique. In my lessons I find moments to express my personal musicianship and love of music.

Artifacts: A, B, C, D, E

6. Assessment
The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.

In my kindergarten and 3rd grade lesson videos, I engage in multiple types of questioning. Asking open questions to kindergarteners quickly taught me a lot about cognitive development.

8. Instructional Strategies
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

My artifacts and professional musicianship show an understanding and respect for the affective domain of music. I strive to share how music has impacted me personally, and work to encourage that emotional connection in my students.

10. Leadership and Cooperation
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

My artifacts show evidence of my time as President and Treasurer of our ACDA chapter. In my two years of service, I learned leadership, problem solving, and creating professional working relationships. While student teaching, I attended afterschool bus duty every week, communicating and cooperating with administration and colleagues.

5. Application of Content
The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.

My artifacts and professional musicianship show that relevance is of key importance to me. I strive to create musical experiences that are directly transferrable- extending even to how they listen to the radio on the way home.

7. Planning for Instruction
The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

My artifacts hope to show teaching that believes music IS a cross-disciplinary skill. Music is a skill of expression, and one that students can take into every area of their lives.

Artifacts: A,B,C,D

9. Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

My artifacts and coursework show professional development and engagement in multiple areas. I served as President of our student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, the largest choral educator’s professional organization. My coursework shows a number of completed professional development courses in relevant areas. Artifact G is a photo of me at afterschool bus duty- a very important aspect of the school culture.
